A World Cup Poem

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 This is the message I’d like to send
To Wayne and David, Steve and Sven
And all the others who’ll wear the shirt
Striving to end the years of hurt

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 From these shores you’ll depart
Carrying the standard of the Lionheart
Since 1066 it’s been our crest
Three Lions worn upon your chest

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Under the flag you’ll proudly stand
In that corner of a foreign land
A red cross with background of white
The symbol of a true and noble knight

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Carry our hopes across the miles
On Chariots of Fire from these sceptred isles
This land of freedom and liberty
This precious stone set in a silver sea

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 A nation forged through mists of time
A history that brave heroes define
Of triumph and honour, hope and glory
Waiting a new episode in the story

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 You’re the finest of your generation
The nations living personification
You band of brothers; you happy few,
Summon the blood and stiffen the sinew,

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 The whistle will blow, the crowd will roar
Cry ‘havoc’ and let slip the dogs of war.
Be great in act as you’ve been in thought
Then your endeavours won’t end in naught

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Follow your spirit; and upon this charge
Cry ‘God for Harry, England, and Saint George!’
From fans at home and in the crowd
What we ask is……….MAKE US PROUD
