Dutch Courage

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 They came from Holland in their legions,
Advertising beer on their nether regions.
FIFA officials soon decided-
‘Off with the shorts the brewer provided.’
And so the spectacle was enhanced
By hundreds in their underpants.
In years to come it will be said,
‘Their shirts were orange-their faces red.’

They went home-older bud weiser.

Notes

FIFA claimed that there had been an attempted ‘marketing ambush’ at the Netherlands v Ivory Coast match in Stuttgart on Friday 16th June 06. Hundreds of Dutch fans had been given orange lederhosen displaying the name of brewery. FIFA stepped in to protect their sponsor, Budweiser. The result was that hundreds of fans had to choose whether to strip to their pants or miss the game.
