England Expects

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The reality hits you, it’s hard to expect,
I’d have been dreaming too.
If you get a twinge while you’re playing for England,
What’s the best thing to do?

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 “I ought to come off!” he might have thought.
“But, what are they going to say?”
He may have glanced towards the bench,
but it looked such a long way away.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Did he forget for a minute, think he’s shaken it off?
It seemed to stop pulling like before.
Did he get caught up in being one-nil down
and priority of helping them to score?

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Did the time fly by and he didn’t realise,
just how much trouble he was brewing?
Oblivious to the fact, that the tighter the knot,
the longer takes the undoing.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Did he not consider: back home, tomorrow
and the physio’s disappointed expression?
Or the fact that putting England first,
might give the wrong impression?

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Did he think about the problems at the club
that his injury might increase?
Or was he just seeing the England cap
placed on the mantle piece?

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 I wonder what goes through their minds,
I suppose I’ll never know!
Don’t kill yourself for England,
when the man at home lets you go!
