Five ring flag

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Seb Coe, Olympic winner
last night, sat down to dinner
not knowing, if in today’s race
London could keep pace
with the fancied French;
would the heart-strings wrench
with the award to Paris
or would the land, of Chopper ‘Arris
prevail, in a most unexpected fashion
would Trafalgar Square, explode with passion
would Blair and Brown
jig not frown
and would the new super-dooper Wembley
be home to an assembly
of not just Premiership stars
nor rock guitars
but the hopes and dreams
of selected teams
from across the world
under an Olympic five-rings flag unfurled?

Notes

Seb Coe – famous Chelsea fan
congratulations on a stunning victory!

London was today announced as the venue for the 2012 Olympic Games, even though all along Paris was the clear favourite.

The above written within hours of the announcement.
Hence it’s happy tone.
And, as it turned out, an unfortunate turn of phrase.

The very next morning, London was hit by four terrorist bombs, killing, maiming and injuring hundreds of innocent people.

To all the victims and their families and friends, I extend my deepest sympathy.
