I Don’t Want To Go To Chelsea!

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 So they’re thinking of moving Stamford Bridge
Across The Thames which is sacriledge
That ain’t no place for our CFC
Once you’re “Over The Water”, it’s Sarf London sea/see.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 It might be alright for a Lions Den
Or Charlton Athletic’s home at The Valley
It makes you wonder why them money men
Didn’t try ‘n’ buy Crystal Palace?

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 As one born, opposite Battersea Power Station
I have to say, it’s a pretty awesome sight
But the side of the river I come from is in Pimlico
With West Londons finest, our local side.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 I don’t want to go to Chelsea
If they move across Battersea Bridge
It’d be like following The Woolwich Arsenal
Miles across London to Highbury!

Notes

Us West Londoners of Chelsea call South London; “Over the water” because you have to cross the River Thames to get over there, which we do as little as humanly possible!

It’s purely a geography thing!

Arsenal FC, formerly of Highbury and recently re-housed up the road at The Emirates, hailed from The Royal Woolwich Arsenal docks originally, which is actually in South London!

So Spurs are actually the only true North London side!

Would I go “Over the water” to watch me team play? Not really sure, to be honest, so let’s see how this pans out. The Battersea Power Station site has had all sorts planned for it and every project has failed to get the go ahead needed to start work.
