It Reflects On Us All.

As I walked down its steps Sunday night
Regent Street majestic, still a view of some beauty
On my descent, disappearing from sight.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Making my way to the ticket barrier
Two red bobble hats came in to the light
I asked them the score? Sheepishly they answered
“Three-one”- “To the Arsenal?”- “Nah United”

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 “And next week you play against Chelsea”
Says I trying to make their day worse
“Though we’re on top, it’ll be a real test of lets see
If our team is any better than yours”

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Smiling they stood there and chatted
“United deserved all the glory
Better than us they really had us rattled
The score-line reflecting the story”

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Expecting a sly dig at our off the field indiscretions
To my surprise there was nothing at all
Isn’t it great when you meet fellow fans from the opposition?
Who just wanna natter to do with “The Football”

Notes

When a member of the team that you follow makes a complete eejit of himself in his private and public life, it shouldn’t do but somehow it reflects on us fans who pay his wages and support him loyally, week in week out, very badly. At work, down the pub, in school, wherever, you feel let down as the digs fly around and ridicule becomes the order of the day, sometimes it can even get real personal.

After all as I’ve heard said or sung by John Lennon:

“A working class hero is something to be,
A working class hero represents you and me”

Or words to that effect?

So it was nice to meet those two Gooners on Sunday night in Londons West End, obviously pained on getting beaten at home by United, and talk about what really matters to us football fans at the end of the day…..”The Football”
