Memories of Wembley

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Knuckles gnawed and
nails nibbled to the cuticle
as clock ticked down in ’90.
Makems put to the sword,
then reclaimed what was rightfully ours
when we were relegated;
still rankles now.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Real rollercoaster ride in ’93:
3-0 up with Premiership
beckoning her hypnotic finger
when Town hit the skids:
Foxes got it back to 3-3
before Bodin penalty meant
we were up where we belonged.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Never turned up two years ago:
outfought and outhought by
streetwise Miiillwaaall side.
A match too far for
Danny Wilson’s men.
Wembley bobble broke Swindon hearts
as Charlie looked sure to score.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 And what of tomorrow?
Passionate Paolo’s men favourites
against the Spireites.
Let’s hope the Town hordes
are celebrating at the end of the match,
turning the M4 into a sea of red and white
on the way home.

Along with my family & 40 odd others we will be going to Wembley tomorrow in what we all hope is going to be a great day out. May post another poem (if we win, that is!)
