Prayer of the Faithful

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Lord, look upon the Shelbourne fans with favour,
As we approach this fateful season’s end.
Send to us a championship to savour,
Send the Bohs supporters round the bend.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The position we are in is unexpected,
We felt that we were always second best,
And though Bohemians have to be respected,
Please grant to us we’ll put them to the test.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Take our earnest prayers as a reminder
That you owe us big time down the years.
Please let Stevie Williams play a blinder,
Please reduce Mark Rutherford to tears.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Oh, Lord, please let Jim Gannon never falter,
And let Paul Keegan never see the ball.
Don’t let Stephen Kenny try to alter
The fact that he might well win bugger all.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Let Dave and Bomber both go overlapping,
Let Richie Baker get his crosses in,
Ensure that it’s the red fans that are clapping,
And black and red scarves end up in the bin.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Let Ashley Bayes be hesitant and nervous,
Let Jim and Stewie boss the centre field,
Let Bobby Ryan not get any service,
Let mighty Kevin Doherty never yield.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Make Ollie Cahill bamboozle their defenders,
Let Kevin Hunt be suffering from cramp,
And Lord of all that’s holy, won’t you send us
The sight of Weso turning on a stamp.

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Oh, please let Fergal Harkin feel iffy,
Let Bohs attempt to play it for a draw,
Let Crowe’s replacement kick it in the Liffey,
When it would be easier to score.

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 Let Colin Hawkins make a dreadful blunder,
Let Marky Roberts show him how to play,
Let Webb and Coughlan slowly fall asunder,
Let Patsy Fenlon’s tactics win the day.

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 Please send your servants mad with wild elation,
Oh, Lord, breathe fire into Geogo’s boots.
Remove from Bohs a cause for celebration,
Let Shelbourne fans get ossified as newts.

11 Leave a comment on verse 11 0 Oriel exposed us to the dangers,
Defeat was snatched from victory’s open jaw,
You sent to us Hibernians and Rangers –
Oh Lord, it’s time you evened up the score.

Notes

This did no good. Bohs scored in injury time and clinched the championship.
