Remembering Phil

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Phil Chevron (Phil Ryan), R.I.P. June 17th 1957 – Oct 8th 2013

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Thousands are wailing
In waves of emotion
You’ve joined an ethereal community
One that we’re yet to see
Fortune prevailing
No divine notion
Your words inspire
Our spirits free
You’ve cashed out
Of life’s lottery
But we’ll dance

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 You took to the stage
With your stooges
And imbued us with energy
Had us pogo’ing
In the mosh pits
With the same fervour
That many of us took to matches
And we see similar now
With ‘Poznan’ on the terraces
And where parental fingers
Pointed at ‘maniacal menaces’
You drew us out of ourselves
Made us appreciate the value
Of words with passion and feeling

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 I’m sure if you ever took to the field
It would be in Rainbow laces
Thank you for your prose and melodies
That helped us put on our ecstatic faces

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 You gave us choons to cherish
In the same way
We now cherish you

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 And we’ll dance

Notes

We’ll raise a glass to Phil Chevron
And a dozen more besides
Where in the presence of us acolytes
We’ll have supped and cried
