Stood All Alone

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 When yer pals are up against the wall
As the shots come raining in
They’ll need some mug on whom they can call
What can parry, thwart, is set to stay big, or can take one on the chin.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 One with plenty of north and south
A real presence midst the fray
Who can throw their agile frame about
Or just plain stick it in the way.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 One who doesn’t mind the cussing
When the error was their fault
Who can’t be doing with all that fussing
When a flimsy forward feigns assault.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 One who catches, punches
Dives, and stands alone to save the day
Who when practicing their drop kick and punts
Also has the nous: when in doubt – hack the bleeding thing away.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 One whose task is often a thankless one
Who during them shoot outs can get slated
Yet the saves they make often win tight games
So their numbers a one with some aplomb.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Yeah there’s something scary about being the one alone
Stood bravely/naively between the posts
I can say this coz I used to a keeper and now know
What a mug I was, but understand why no-one else would go in goal!

Notes

Hearing of Joe Hart’s exploits the other night
In The partizan Camp Nou versus Barca
Kinda reminded me that the art and plight
Of a keeper, is a man alone trying to ward off disaster!

Stay well, be lucky and keep smiling.

Peace.

Kev.
