Notes

Spent my 10th anniversary in a very grown up place trying to be noiseless watching Ronaldo v. Kahn. To the younger football fans out there: If you wish to be married, and are (un?)principled enough to not have ‘must like football’ among your criteria, do not choose dates from early June until the end of July for your wedding (or, now that Qatar is on deck, November 15 to January 31 (in both cases allowing two weeks for groomsmen and bridesmaids travelling to the WC to return home or make bail)). Also, it is best to avoid late April and May, for FA Cup and Champions League. Come to think of it, September to March could result in missing derby matches. Perhaps best not to get married if you are a football fan, but, if you must, I suggest August 1-15, if you can find a clergyperson or Justice of the Peace not on vacation. Of course, even this won’t work for us fans of MLS. In any event, many happy returns and, if you sink the cost, learn from the mistakes of the missus and me and do your best to see it through. TM
