Tackled by Christmas

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 There’s a green area opposite Tesco’s
Which is a reasonable size.
It is used, by me, to play football
Well me and the rest of the guys.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 That is, that it would be,
But unfortunately today
We get there and find somebody
Has Built Tesco’s Christmas display

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Right in the middle of this area.
Imagine our dismay
When we got there after school
And discovered we couldn’t play.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Don’t get me wrong, normally,
I’m full of the spirit of the season,
But at this moment I had none
And, I believe, with good reason.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 What good is peace on earth
And Goodwill to all men,
If we cannot play football
Until January arrives again?

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Someone then suggested that we
Play around all the things
But we said no, explaining,
The inconvenience that it brings.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Besides can you imagine
How embarrassing it would be
To be tackled by a fake Santa,
Or fouled by a Christmas Tree?

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 It looks like we’ll have to postpone
Our game, temporarily.
Looking, currently, at the display,
A solution we failed to see.

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 Then suddenly someone suggested,
‘Why is it not the case,
That we don’t give up our game,
We simply find another place?’

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 Of Course that was the solution,
Why didn’t we think of it before?
And lo and behold after a game
Our Christmas Spirit’s seemed to restore.
