The Devil Came To Hodgson

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 One night before the World Cup
the Devil came to Roy
and said, “For your poor soul,
I’ll trade you this, my English boy:
two successive one goal games
deprive the third of meaning.”
Roy saw the points, forgot the flames.
‘Accept it!’ he was leaning.
“Guarantee Frank hits the field,
and one first goal for Wayne,”
And so a fateful bargain sealed
that brought the English pain.
The moral of this wholesale story?
‘Don’t deal with the Devil
unless you bring your soul-sale lawyer
(playing field to level).
