The Last Payday

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Trotting out on another pitch
They’ve done it a thousand times before
The game seems old but the land is new.
Out in Australia, Qatar or the USA
Footballers looking for their last payday.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 People like big names
They want to see greats with their own eyes
See if they can still cut it.
Ageing strikers don’t need to fret
As long as they put it in the back of the net.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 He looks a little older
Doesn’t run as much as he once did
But the touch is still there.
Their instinctive talent never goes
Even if the pace slows.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Finds it difficult to stop
Just wants to play a few good games
Before it all comes to an end.
Their passion and skills are diminished
Their career is nearly finished.
