Wanderers’ Lament

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 To score a goal, oh – just to score a goal.
To put the ball where it belongs, to win a
Match. To play full backs at full back, to
Play 4-4-2, not 4-5-1. A dream, a fantasy
In this age of caution.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 To show some flair, to gain respect from
The TV pundits. To honour the name and
The heritage of our club. To watch a team
That’s going to give us a chance, to give
Us some optimism.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 To have a manager with the sense to see
What’s wrong, and the humility to admit it.
To have a team going forward – not just
Clutching at straws, hoping for the best
And getting the worst.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 To return whence we came – the fizzy pop
League welcomes overpaid underachievers.
At least fixtures on Saturdays at 3pm, maybe
Even cheaper tickets (joke). Back where we
Began, all over again.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 To have ambition, confidence, and a sense of
Purpose – to respect your fans, to give them
Hope. That’s all we ask. And a goal to cheer,
Now and then. How Billy and the Doog would
Turn in their graves.

Notes
