when you just hit that rhythm (a coach’s canon)

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 knock it about
knock it about
keep communicating
call and shout

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 knock it around
knock it around
play keepball
on the ground

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 play to feet
come and meet
possession counts
so keep it neat

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 give and go
give and go
keep it moving
to and fro

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 keep it fluent
keep it fluent
show for the ball
no playing truant

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 make them chase
make them chase
but keep it tight
just in case

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 pass and move
pass and move
as coach’s mantra
hits that groove …

Notes

for me, this brings to mind the great Liverpool team of old,
or any top team hitting peak performance,
and also perhaps the Real Madrid we witnessed in April 2003
over the two Champions League Quarter final legs versus Man Utd,
but with their array of talent, sublime skills and stunning stepovers
(Sir Bobby Robson called it cultured connoisseur’s football)
they could play at a level far beyond the coaching manual.
