We’re an army blue and white,
Our hopes are high, our prospects bright.
On this, another Season’s eve,
Once more we truly do believe. We represent our city,
Well, half of it at least.
There is […] -

On the banks of the Mersey there is a divide,
Two teams with long histories for primacy vie.
The one that I root for plays in blue and white,
While the other in red has God on its side. There’s a […]

A new season comes and we’re all filled with hope.
Hope, hope and the years slip by.
Soon it is May, and we can but mope.
Mope, mope as the years slip by.Players are bought and players are sold. […]

They said we were ungrateful,
When we sacked Allardyce.
Well, truth be told, we can’t deny,
It wasn’t very nice. But football is a business,
For sentiment no place.
So poor Big Sam, he had to […] -

The Final is a must!
But all the time kept thinking
That it could have been us.Us out there on that Moscow pitch,

There’s also Henderson.

Napoleon tried in eighteen-twelve,
But didn’t have much luck.
Then Hitler swooped in forty-one,
Yet he too came unstuck. Now England’s bound for Russia,
Though this time there’s no war.

We’re the Mersey Madmen,
We’re seriously insane,
‘Cos we support the Boys in Blue,
We’ve only half a brain. Were we endowed with any sense,
We’d follow Liverpool,
But we’re consigned to Everton

For many a long, long year.

This is the third poem in a series – to appreciate it fully, you should read the earlier two – Rob Martinez’ Blue and White Army and David Moyes’s Blue and White Army.

Our Faith has never wavered,

Smile when you win, and accept defeat.
You should not grumble, bleat, whinge or complain,
Cry “It’s not fair, let the match be replayed!”Farage, Gove, Johnson and Stu […]

Hi Denys,
Yes Richard Williams you’re a brilliant wordsmith, my friend. When I first saw your football poetry I thought it was the superb Guardian sports and music writer. I once had the honour of sitting next to Richard Williams while at the Independent on the sports desk. He writes about music and sport with immense knowledge and authority. I’ve read a couple of Richard’s books recently. Great writer rather like you Richard Williams the Pompey fan. Congratulations on promotion.

Hi Joe
Shouldn’t your title read your poem Farewell Europe England to everyone exccept Aston Villa ?
I know you mention them in your poem , but I do feel sorry for Villa re the national press .
Largely ignored. the hype was was all about Man City & Arsenal with a bit of a nod to the Hammers..but hardly a mention of Villa..
So well done to them

Hi Crispin. Chris Sutton on the radio has gone for a Chelsea v Coventry final. As we know anything can happen in the Cup, and I reckon we can go to the final.
We’re still in with a chance of the play offs too, so lots to go for.

Hey Kev
Let the masses drool over their odds on City v Unted Final, but who knows how pressure can hit.
Cov and Chels will be rightly labelled as having no chance..but hey …stranger things have happened..
so Chelsea v Coventry…that’s the Final for us!
Best
