for tonight’s friendly,
England vs Holland
to back the various anti-racism campaigns
such as :
Thierry Henry’s “Stand Up, Speak Up”
Kick It Out
Show Racism the Red Card
Kick Racism Out Of Football
etc, etc
Holland will be wearing a one-off kit of black and white halves –
looks cool too. Portugal and Russia are also wearing this strip
in their friendly matches tonight.
A Dutch spokesman said “it’s a big deal to give up our National colours
but it is something we are prepared to do”.
England will wear the message “No to racism” in silver letters
on the front of their (red) shirts tonight.
Obviously, kit makers Nike stand to benefit commercially from all this,
and some will have an issue with that,
but all the same, it is good to see the conglomerates backing these campaigns.
Nike are also behind the black and white wristbands that a lot of players
have taken to wearing.
More details at Thierry Henry’s (actually Nike’s) StandUpSpeakUp website.
