Put a smile on Shankly’s Face

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 On the 25th of May, with passion their hearts were full
They marched out there as underdogs, on the pitch of Istanbul,
The fans came in their thousands, full of pride and glee
As the reds played like heroes and then made history,
Their opponents 6 times winners, was it going to be one more
when they were 3 nil down and Milan still with the ball,
The Rafalution seemed done for, fans sing in a hopeful tone
Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart and you’ll never walk alone,
Half time came upon them, kopites disheartened and quiet now
Then Rafa’s words of gold, changed them back some how,
Suddenly a change of heart and a thirst for winning in their souls
There was a giant roar from the kopites, as Stevie started the goals,
Still Milan seemed cocky and thoughts of defeat were few
“and you will know my name is Gerrard, when I lay my vengence upon you”,
Smicer made it a second for us, it was all coming together
As true reds from all over, thanked the lord in heaven,
Still the game was not over yet, but Stevie got us a pen
As the lord god looked down on Liverpool and said you can do it again,
The impossible was now possible, tension in the air
For the skill used in this game, penalties were not fair,
But Dudek made a magnificent save, by the reds you are never failed
With pride Stevie lifted the cup, which by all the fans was hailed,
For the 3 nil down at half time, we really should not moan
Because remember the holy grail is coming back home
L.F.C made everyone proud that night, with their come back and quickening pace
And I’m sure that somewhere up there in heaven, there is a smile on Shankly’s face.
